Historical Photographic Exhibition

Saturday, 18 & Sunday, 19 November 2023

On the occasion of the centenary of birth of Father Atanasio Gonelli, our Charity will be hosting a photographic exhibition, showcasing 150 panels of historical weddings and baptisms celebrated by Fr Atanasio.

The exhibition will be held in the gardens and hall of St Fiacre's Parish, 96 Catherine St, Leichhardt and will be open to the public on Saturday, 18 November from 1pm to 6pm and Sunday, 19 November from 10am to 6pm. Admission is free.

For this exhibition we have chosen a selection of photos dated from 1954 to 1974, of weddings and baptisms celebrated by Fr Atanasio, as well as journals and documents handwritten by Fr Atanasio dating back to 1942. Visitors to the exhibition who recognise a photo of their grandparents, parents, family members or themselves can request a souvenir photo as a gift.

Father Atanasio arrived in Australia in 1950. Records indicate that during his 61 years' mission in Australia, from 1950 to 2011, he celebrated more than 4,000 weddings and 8,000 baptisms.
