Successful Historical Photographic Exhibition
On Saturday and Sunday, 18 and 19 November 2023, our Charity held an extraordinary photographic exhibition of weddings and baptisms celebrated by our Charity's Founder, Fr Atanasio Gonelli OFM Cap, dating from 1954 to 1974. Historical diaries and journals, handwritten by Fr Atanasio dating back to 1942, were also on display.
The photographic exhibition was officially opened by the Italian Consul General in Sydney, Dott. Andrea De Felip, the Mayor of Santa Caterina Dello Ionio (Italy), Dott. Francesco Severino, and Fr John Cooper OFM Cap. The exhibition was viewed by hundreds of first, second and third generation Italian Australians. Members of the public who recognised a loved one in the photos have registered to receive a free copy of the photo.
A big thank you to all the volunteers who worked tirelessly to ensure that a part of the Catholic history of Sydney's Italian Australian community and of the Capuchin Franciscan Friars of Australia was able to be exhibited. A big thank you also to Fr Severino Bustamante and the St Fiacre's Parish for enabling our Charity to display the exhibition in the Parish gardens and hall.
Photos of the event can be viewed on our Charity's Facebook page.
The historical photos were published on our Charity's Facebook page on 18 January 2024.
